Although the star at the 2022 GM CES conference was the upcoming Chevy Silverado EV, Chevrolet plans to launch two more electric SUVs, one being the all-new Chevy Blazer EV.
Some shoppers felt disappointed when the Blazer returned to the 2019 Chevy lineup. Instead of taking on the off-road ability most shoppers anticipated, it took a more conventional midsize crossover approach. We believe that the Blazer going electric will give it more power this time around. However, will it still be a midsize crossover for daily drivers or an off-roader for adventurers?
Already, General Motors has revealed its plan to roll out a total of 30 new EV models by 2025. This is all part of its bigger electrification plan. The upcoming GM electric vehicles will be built on the GM’s EV platform—Ultium battery technology and Ultium drive motor technology, as well as new EV-centric architectures like BEV3 and BT1. Cars built on this platform will offer up to 300 miles of driving range on a single charge.
What To Expect
Chevy knows that compact and midsize SUVs are one of the hot-selling segments in the US, so it makes sense to place EVs in these segments. Besides offering a Chevy EV pickup truck, Chevrolet plans to add two more EVs, which according to this American automaker, are “coming quickly.”
Just like the regular gas-powered Blazer, the all-new Blazer EV will surely carry over the exterior styling and stunning on-road presence of the regular Blazer. We also expect the new Blazer EV to boast not just a head-turning exterior design of the traditional Blazer but also a spacious and elegantly styled interior. As GM plans to offer Super Cruise and many hands-free driver assistance techs to more of its models in the coming years, we have every reason to believe that the all-new 2024 Blazer EV will be one of the first GM models to get these features.
What could be under the hood of the new Blazer EV is a wild guess. Of course, we will surely learn more about the 2024 Blazer EV before it officially arrives in fall 2023. Notwithstanding, it is clear that this fully electric crossover will sit on GM’s GM’s BEV3 architecture and will utilize the Ultium EV technology. If the upcoming Chevy Silverado EV, which is based on the same platform, will give a 400-mile range, it will be safe to assume that the Blazer EV can provide between 300 to 350 miles of range, considering that this smaller Chevy EV is a crossover for young families.
As SUV EVs continue to rule the electric vehicle market, the 2024 Blazer EV will face intense competition, even as more rivals are getting set to join the war. Amidst it all, we believe that the all-new 2024 Chevy Blazer can keep with the heat.
