As part of its plan to make its lineup consist of up to 40% EVs by 2030, Ford announced that it would be offering an all-electric version of the Explorer SUV. This popular American automaker of well-built and affordable cars looks to boost its EV portfolio that already has the Mustang Mach-E electric crossover, the E-transit electric van, and the upcoming F-150 Lightning pickup truck.

The Explorer has been one of Ford’s best-selling and most successful models for years. So, taking all the winning formula in the regular Explorer, swapping the internal combustion engines with an electric motor, and adding more futuristic tech niceties to this three-row SUV make perfect sense.

While the ICE Explorer will still be produced at the Ford Chicago Assembly Plant, the all-new electric Explorer will be built in Mexico at the Ford Cuautitlan Assembly Plant, just like the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

Presently, Explorer is available in hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions.
