The Real Deal On The 2022 Kia EV6: Full Review

It’s no news that Kia’s Plan S will include 11 new EVs by 2026, but Kia can wait till then to offer those 11 EVs. The South Korean automaker starts with the all-new EV6, which will be available for leasing in the coming days.

Built on the E-GMP platform, the all-new 2022 Kia EV6 is the first Kia model to be a fully electric vehicle from the ground up. Although this Kia electric vehicle is a new entry into the competitive affordable EV SUVs, it stands out with its distinctive sleek styling, bold and contemporary design, exciting driving experience, fast charging, and a roomy and well-equipped cabin, despite being a small crossover.

If you want to lease a small family electric crossover SUV that makes a statement, you should consider leasing the 2022 Kia EV6. This Kia’s EV appeals to many shoppers with not just its stunning looks or sophisticated interior, but nearly in all aspects, placing it at the top of its segment.

Engine & Performance

The all-new 2022 EV6 comes in four powertrain configurations—two rear-wheel drive systems and two all-wheel drive systems, which is available with either a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle or dual electric motors on both axles.

The base configuration is a smaller battery, a 58-kWh battery pack, and a rear-wheel drive that generates 167 horses and 258 lb-ft. Opting for the larger 77.4-kWh battery and rear-wheel boosts the power to 225hp. The all-wheel drive system sports only a larger 77.4-kWh battery and dual electric motors to produce 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft. The top-rated GT model boasts larger front and rear motors delivers 576 horses to all four wheels.

Any 2022 EV6 model that you end up leasing, rest assured of getting athletic and refined driving manners. The all-new EV6 entertains drivers with its peppy acceleration, nimble handling, responsive steering, and outstanding braking system.

Fuel Economy

All 2022 Kia EV6 models with a single electric motor earn an EPA combined estimated rating of 117 MPGe, while models with the dual electric motor get a 105 MPGe combined rating.

Range & Charging

The EV6 base model with a 58.0-kWh battery pack and rear-wheel drive earns an EPA-rated range of 232 miles per charge. Other models with a 77.4-kWh battery pack can go 310 miles on a full charge.

Kia claims that charging the EV6 with the 800V DC fast charging can add up to 70 miles range in less than 5 minutes. It could also charge from 10 to 80% in less than 18 minutes. Charging with a Level 2 charger will take up to 7 hours to fill the battery from 10%.

Interior, Cargo

Although the interior is not as stunning as the exterior, neither does it afford the best-in-class futuristic cabin as other EVs. Still, the new EV6 sports an attractive and contemporary cabin. Its fully digitized dash boasts dual 12-inch screens—an infotainment system and an instrument cluster display. Passenger and cargo space is not so exceptional, but there’s enough head-and legroom space for passengers and enough space to haul loads.

The all-new 2022 Kia EV6 is a legitimate small electric SUV that not just opens the door for other upcoming Kia EVs. It can stand up to some of the top-rated EVs.
