Talking about going green, Honda is one of the first few brands to embrace electrification as far back as 1999 and mid-2000s with the Insight hatchback and FCX Clarity. While it didn’t register any considerable success then, there seems to be a new wind of change as the Japanese automaker will soon be launching a new electric SUV, the Prologue.
Honda has always appealed to shoppers with its solid build quality, reliability, and versatility. Thanks to the new partnership between Honda and General Motors, shoppers who have always wanted to lease a fully electric Honda model will finally have to settle with a new lineup of Honda EVs, starting with the upcoming 2024 Prologue.
What To Expect
Besides using the GM’s Ultium battery technology, every other thing about the upcoming Honda EV is solely about Honda. Other Honda EVs coming after 2024 will be fully built by Honda. The Japanese maker of reliable cars plans to have its electric platform up and running before then.
While Honda hasn’t released much information about the upcoming Prologue, we still have some confirmed details and many things we expect to see. The Prologue will likely come as a compact crossover. However, we won’t be surprised if Honda decides to give us a midsize electric SUV.
As Honda does not have an electric vehicle architecture to launch its EVs yet, the upcoming Prologue will use GM’s Ultium battery technology that we have seen in other GM cars, including the Cadillac Lyriq and GMC Hummer EV. It is also more likely that this Honda EV will still stick to Honda’s tradition by offering LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring trim levels.
Range & Charging
It may appear too early to know the exact drive range and charging of the 2024 Prologue as it is still far from launch, but we will always keep you up to date with any new development.
As it is on the GM’s electric platform, should the Honda Prologue adopt the 100-kWh battery pack found in other GM’s, we could expect the driving range to be slightly around 250 miles per charge or more. Of course, the driving range could depend on the model. Still, the least model could probably have a range of not below 270 miles on a full charge, while the best model gets somewhere around or slightly above 300 miles.
With so many electric crossovers already available in the market and even more getting set to join before 2024, when Honda finally makes the Prologue available, we shall get to see how this Honda EV SUV will stack against rivals. We have every reason to believe it will hold its own.
