You might be familiar with the regular Hyundai Ioniq hybrid and plug-in hybrids, but what about the all-new Ioniq 5 EV?
While it already offers hybrids and plug-in hybrids with the Ioniq marque, Hyundai has decided to use the Ioniq name to launch its next line of fully electric vehicles. The first fully-electric Hyundai to use the Ioniq moniker is the all-new 2022 Ioniq 5, a stylish EV hatchback that boasts a pleasant cabin with stunning looks.
The Hyundai Ioniq stands out with its retro styling, plush and comfortable cabin, and ample passenger and cargo space. This small crossover electric SUV, according to Hyundai, will redefine the next generation of Hyundai electric cars. With its excellent road manners, exciting driving range, pleasant charging rates, and extensive tech features, the future of Hyundai EVs surely looks bright.
Engine & Performance
The all-new 2022 Ioniq 5 is powered by a 77.4 kWh battery pack and up to two electric motors. The base models come with a single electric motor mounted at the rear that generates 225 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque with the longer-range battery and 168 horsepower with the standard-range battery.
For more performance, there’s a more powerful dual motor configuration with all-wheel drive that delivers 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque. The available dual motors are faster than the single motors, going from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds, while the single motor completes 0 to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds. The Ioniq 5 feels pretty athletic, delivering an exciting blend of lithe handling and a smooth ride.
Hyundai offers the 2022 Ioniq 5 in three different trim levels, SE, SEL, and Limited.
Range & Charging
While the dual motors are faster than the single motors, the single motors offer more range than the all-wheel dual motors. The larger battery pack is rated at 256 miles on a full charge with dual motors. It gets 303 miles on a full charge with single motors.
Hyundai also claims that the 2022 Ioniq 5, when charged using a DC fast charger (800V/350 kW charger), can add about 68 miles of range in about five minutes. It can also charge from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes with an 800V.
On the inside, the Ioniq 5 boasts a spacious interior with futuristic tech equipment you can expect in an electric car. While the interior is not so exceptional, the Ioniq 5 thrills shoppers with its cavernous passenger and cargo cabin, filled with family-friendly materials and digitized dashboard.
Hyundai equipped the Ioniq 5 with a large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice recognition control, and navigation.
