The Chevy Silverado has won multiple awards through its long history as an American pickup truck. It is a strong work truck and suitable for plenty of off-road fun and can tow just about anything. In Fact, the 2021 Chevy Silverado now has increased towing capacity, Some trims over 13,000 pounds. And if you can imagine all of this power, but still being rated the most fuel-efficient pickup in America with an estimated 23 miles per gallon or more! One of the secrets behind the Success of the Silverado is its extremely well-built engines, and there are 5 to choose from. Let’s take a look at what they are made of.
4.3L EcoTec3 V6
This V6 engine pumps out 285 horsepower with 305 pounds-feet of torque. It is paired with an automatic transmission that has 6 speeds. This Chevrolet engine uses a proprietary technology called Active Fuel Management. This can turn off half of the cylinders during times of lower power consumption to further reduce fuel consumption.
5.3L EcoTec3 V8
This V8 engine produces 355 horsepower with 383 pounds-feet of torque. Either a 6 speed or 8-speed automatic transmission. And depending on which trim it comes on it either comes with the Active Fuel Management technology mentioned above or on the higher trims a Dynamic Fuel Management technology, which is similar but only activates the necessary cylinders, saving even more fuel.
6.2L EcoTec3 V8
This is a larger V8 engine with 420 horsepower and 460 pounds-feet of torque. It is the most powerful of the Silverado engines with over 13,000 pounds of towing ability and 10-speed transmission. This too comes with Dynamic Fuel Management.
Duramax 3.0L Turbo-diesel
This powerful diesel engine is turbocharged and the most fuel-efficient with 23 mpg in the city and 33 on the highway. It has 277 horsepower with 460 pounds-feet of torque.
